If you’re considering a whole house remodel in Northwest Ohio, especially in an older or historic home, this project is a great example of what’s possible with the right planning, craftsmanship, and team.
Homes built before 1900 carry a lot of character, but they also come with layers of outdated materials, aging systems, and hidden challenges. This project was a full transformation that brought a historic home back to life while making it comfortable and functional for modern living.
The Starting Point: A Home Ready for a Reset

There’s something special about bringing an old home back to life.
This one was built before 1900, and when we first stepped inside, it showed its age. Many of the finishes had been in place for 60 to 80 years and were well past their time. The walls were original plaster and lath, there was no insulation, and much of the home needed a full reset to make it comfortable and functional for a modern family.
A True Whole House Transformation
This project became a true whole house transformation.
We completely reworked the kitchen with a new layout, cabinetry, surfaces, and lighting. Both bathrooms were rebuilt from the ground up. Every inch of trim throughout the home was replaced. The original plaster walls and ceilings were restored and refinished — which in itself was a massive undertaking.

When you take on a remodel at this level, it’s not just about updating finishes — it’s about rethinking how the home functions day to day.
Behind the Walls: What You Don’t See Matters Most
One of the biggest parts of a whole house remodel — especially in older homes — is the work you don’t see when it’s finished.
Behind the walls, the work was just as extensive:
- The entire home was rewired
- All new plumbing was installed for the kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry
- The furnace, hot water heater, and baseboard heating system were replaced
Bringing these systems up to today’s standards is what makes a home not just beautiful, but safe, efficient, and reliable for years to come.
Preserving the Character of a Historic Home
One of our favorite parts of this project was preserving the character that made this home special in the first place.
Several of the downstairs rooms had original cove ceilings. While they needed a lot of repair, we were able to restore them and keep that historic charm alive.

Projects like this require a balance — knowing when to update and when to slow down and restore what’s already there. That attention to detail is what allows a home to feel both timeless and refreshed.
Built by a Team That Cares
This was truly an all hands on deck project for our team. Everyone had a hand in bringing this home back together.
A special thank you to our plaster crew who went above and beyond. Their craftsmanship and dedication played a huge role in making this home feel whole again.
And to the homeowners — thank you. You were incredible to work with throughout the entire process. Projects like this don’t happen without trust, patience, and collaboration.
The Final Result
It took longer than expected — as projects like this often do — but today this house stands as a warm, updated, and comfortable home ready for the next chapter of life.
